Simulation Tools

About simulation tools and data analysis, the Italian collaboration has been working or is working on the following items.

JEM-EUSO Related Items:

  • Development of the trigger algorithms for the detection of: air showers, meteors, strange quark matter such as nuclearites.
  • Study of the operational duty cycle of the mission, role of clouds, aurorae, city lights and trigger efficiency curve to evaluate JEM-EUSO aperture and exposure in nadir mode. The results of these analyses have been published on Astroparticle Physics (see publication page).
  • Same study for the evaluation of the aperture and exposure in tilt mode.
  • Evaluation of resolutions and uncertainties in the estimation of the main parameters of the showers: arrival direction, energy, Xmax, for both clear and cloudy atmospheric conditions.
  • Simulation of LIDAR signals to evaluate the detection of clouds and their optical depths.
  • Simulation of meteors and nuclearites to evaluate JEM-EUSO detection capabilities.
  • Analysis of satellite data to evaluate the systematic uncertainties and resolutions in the identification of the cloud top by means of radiative algorithms and stereoscopic vision.
  • Use of atmospheric models with high spatial resolution to evaluate precisely the atmospheric conditions in which the air showers have been observed.

TA-EUSO and EUSO-Balloon Related Items:

  • Simulation of the TA-EUSO response by means of a GEANT4 based software.
  • Simulation of the trigger efficiency and energy threshold of EUSO-Balloon for air shower observation.

  • Upcoming meetings
